May 17th is the National Day of Norway - and Bergen is known as the best city to celebrate in with parades, concerts and firework.

The historical background is the signing of the first Norwegian constitution in 1814, and today the day is celebrated as a national holiday. Bergen has its own traditions for the parade, including comic troupes, various local organizations, marching bands - and of course: the unique "buekorps".

More than 100.000 join the celebration in Bergen this day - either as spectators or as participants. If you want to join the parade, you can walk behind the banner of your academic institution in the main parade (attendance 10.00 at Koengen).

Highlights from the program:

07.00: Gun salutes and start for the Morning Parade (from Dreggen to Festplassen)

10.30: Gun salutes and start for the Main Parade (red line)

10.40: Start for the Childrens Parade (blue line)

19.00 Entertainment from the stage at Festplassen

21.30: Main concert and show at Bryggen from a stage located at a stage at Vågen (the city bay)

23.15: Fireworks over Vågen
