The public transport in Bergen is operated by Skyss and consists of bus lines and a light rail. 

Bus and light rail

The light rail (Bybanen) runs every 4.-5. minutes during rush hours (7.00-9.30 and 13.30-18.00), and runs frequently the rest of the day. The light rail serves the areas south of the city center, including Bergen's airport (Bergen lufthavn), Fantoft Student Village, Kronstad and Danmarksplass.

The rest of the suburb areas in Bergen are served by bus. Along these main lines the bus runs at least every 5. Minute during rush hours, and also frequent the rest of the day.

  • City center - Sandviken - Norwegian school of Economics/Breiviken (North): Line 3, 4, 5, 6, 36, 39, 83.
  • City center - Haukeland - Landås (South): Line 2, 3, 12, 80.
  • City center - Gyldenpris (West): Line 4, 10, 12, 15, 17, 19.


Students (under the age of 32) can buy a 30 day travel card with 40% off normal price. This can be bought from the ticket app or with a personal Skyss travel card. The Skyss travel card can be purchased online at or at the Skyss-office in the city center, located at Bergen Storsenter. The card can be refilled at the ticket machines. 

The price of public transport (bus and light rail) is flat inside Bergen municipality. Note that there is an extra fee if you buy the ticket on the bus. Ticket machines only accept credit cards and coins.

Traveling by taxi is expensive in Norway. Even short trips can easily cost 200 NOK. We strongly recommend travelling by official taxis only.

Airport bus

The light rail now offers a route from the airport to the city centre. However. the airport bus is faster and offers a dedicated luggage area. Flybussen operates the route and it is possible to buy both single and round trip tickets, online, on the bus and with a mobile app. 



The trains departing from Bergen Railway Station is operated by NSB (Norwegian State Railways). There are local trains to Arna and Voss, and regional trains to Oslo.
